Essay Diary Of A Wimpy Kid

A Hundred Years Ago was a poem written by Rodrick Heffley for an essay that Mr. Huff, the history teacher at Westmore Middle School, assigned. When the power went out at the Heffley residence, Rodrick sold this poem for $20,000 in Mom Bucks or $200 in real money. Unfortunately, this trade had two consequences; the first was that Rodrick failed the essay due to it being a poem, not an essay, and the second was that Greg paid Rodrick in "fake" Mom Bucks money he stole from a Monopoly board game at Rowley's house rather than money he earned.

In the Book and Online Book

Sometimes I sit and wonder about stuff I don't know

Like what the heck the earth was like a hundred years ago.

Did cavemen ride on dinosaurs?

Did flowers even grow?

Well we could guess but that was back a hundred years ago.

I wish they built a time machine.

And picked me up to go.

To check out what the scene was like a hundred years ago.

Did giant spiders rule the earth?

Were deserts filled with snow?

I wonder what the story was a hundred years ago.

In the Movie

Sometimes I sit and wonder

About stuff I do not know

Like, what the earth was like a hundred years ago

Did cavemen ride on dinosaurs?

Did flowers even grow?

Did spiders rule the earth?

Were deserts filled with snow?

There were no books or humans So how are we to know,

What the earth was like a hundred years ago.

  • This poem is logically impossible. Rodrick described scenery that might have happened at the beginning of the Earth, rather than events that happened in the 1900's, or nonsensical things such as "giant spiders ruling the Earth." It would have made more logical sense if Rodrick had titled this poem "A Gazillion Years Ago."
  • The poem from the movie is slightly different than the one from the book.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney, loved by Dylan

My favourite book ever is Diary of a Wimpy Kid because it is funny and the main character, called Greg Heffley, is a bit like me. He is lazy, so am I. I am so lazy my mum is making me write this.

He is clever but prefers to act a bit stupid like me because it is more fun … wait … what? He also likes playing video games and doesn’t really like sport (me in a nutshell). Oh yeah, and his dad tried to stop him playing video games to do more sport. I am glad my dad is not like that. My mum showed me a cartoon where the cartoon boy is told to play outside so he takes his game controller outside and plays through the window. That’s what I would do too and so would Greg Heffley

Diary of a Wimpy Kid makes me feel lucky because he has more problems than I do.  It also makes me realise that it matters what school you go to. His middle school is a bad place full of big people who might bully me if I went there. I would certainly never go in the bathroom there. My junior school is much better and I don’t get bullied.

I like the cartoons too and they make the book better. I started to draw a cartoon strip after I read it, but unfortunately it sucked. Diary of a Wimpy Kid doesn’t suck. It IS my favourite book, after all.
